Monster Webquest
This assignment is an adaptation of Mrs. Bauer’s Frankenstein WebQuest. In this WebQuest, you will be asked to create and explore your own answer to who Shelley's "monster" truly is. Please complete ALL four tasks in this WebQuest in the order they appear. Create a google doc titled "WebQuest: What is a Monster?" to keep the information for your WebQuest organized and saved as you progress through the tasks and answer the questions. Your google doc should be in MLA format.
Task 1:
What is a monster? Type in the word "monster" and read the definitions offered in the links provided. Make a mental note (and perhaps written notes as well) of how many definitions one word can have. Your task is to read the definitions and then develop your own definition of what you believe a monster is based on what you have learned by reading Frankenstein and also from your own experiences/ideas. Your definition should be more than a re-wording of the definitions you looked at. Be creative!
www. dictionary.com
http://www.merriam-webster.com/
Task 2:
Examine the two images below. How do these images challenge your previous interpretations of the term "monster"? Do you feel like they fit what you imagined the monster to be? Which do you think is the most accurate and why? Write a response (100 word minimum) citing specific details from the images and textual support from the novel.

Task 3:
Conduct your own research on a monster of your choice using the Monster Research Guide to help direct and orient you. Copy the questions provided and save both the questions and your responses in the google doc you created as you began this WebQuest. When you have finished the guide, compare your monster to the monster in Frankenstein. How are they similar? How are they different? How does your monster fit with the definition you created at the beginning of the WebQuest? (100 word response)
Task 4:
Consider these quotes from the novel:
Justine Moritz: “He threatened and menaced, until I almost began to think that I was the monster he said I was” (66).
Elizabeth Lavenza: “Men appear to me as monsters thirsting for each other’s blood” (71).
The Monster: “If you refuse [my request], I will glut the maw of death, until it be satisfied with the blood of your remaining friends” (77).
Victor: “For the first time, also, I felt what the duties of a creator towards his creature were, and that I ought to render him happy before I complained of his wickedness” (78).
The Monster: “You accuse me of murder; and yet you would, with a satisfied conscience, destroy your own creature” (79).
Consider the characters in the novel and the way they talk about monsters and the power of life. Consider the research you’ve done and the definition you’ve created. Drawing from your reading of the book and our discussions in class, who do you think the real monster of Frankenstein is? (100 word response).
